Teach the River Kick-Off

The San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust and the California Department of Fish and Game are starting Teach the River 2007 with a kick-off celebration. We are proud to be entering our 7th successful year of helping people discover the wonders where they live! Community leaders will be treated to a bald eagle tour of Millerton Lake, followed by the “Our Land. Our River. Our Way of Life.” press conference, which is open to the public. The press conference will help us launch new public service announcements about the San Joaquin River and highlight more upcoming Teach the River activities.

For Kids Only: Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest

Monday, February 12 - A School Holiday!
9am to 3pm

*Materials fee included

Students will enjoy a great day out of school and in the great outdoors learning about migratory waterfowl with River Parkway Trust education staff, then working with an artist to create entries for the annual Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest.  The River Center on Old Friant Road is an ideal place for observing ducks and geese in the adjacent ponds, and provides a great space for producing art work.  Fun and games included, ages 8 – 12.  Use the registration form on this website or call 433-3190 ext 3#.

River Restoration Forum

A once dry riverbed will soon come to life again! The historic San Joaquin River agreementt allows for the return of water and Chinook salmon to the San Joaquin River below Friant Dam. Come participate in a lively discussion with a panel of key players involved in the settlement, and learn how the terms of the agreement will impact our local communities.

“IT’S FOR THE BIRDS!” – Fourth Annual Birdhouse and Birdfeeder Contest
When:
Contest entries due April 13 – 15
Awards ceremony and festival on Sunday April 22

Build and donate a birdhouse or feeder for this fun and unique fund-raiser and help draw attention to the need for riverside habitat and the land preservation work of the River Parkway Trust.  Silent auction of birdhouses benefits educational programs at the River Center.  To enter call 433-3190 ext. 4# or visit www.riverparkway.org for entrance procedures.

Whether or not you have an entry in the contest, plan to attend the awards ceremony and Silent Auction Opening.  Awards will be given for a variety of categories, including “First Birdhouse to Entice an Avian Occupant.”  Festive music, live birds and tasty “tweets” are always a part of this celebration at the River Center.  All ages welcome, no registration required for the ceremony and festival.


 

Celebrate California’s Free Fishing Day

Come celebrate California Department of Fish and Game’s Free Fishing Day with us! Free Fishing Day is an excellent opportunity to introduce our non-fishing friends to the sport. This year we are offering student and community groups the chance to celebrate this day by providing everything needed for fishing and canoeing at no cost! Selected groups will be treated to all fishing equipment, bait, and free instruction. Participants can also go canoeing in the River Parkway Trust’s fleet of canoes in a safe, supervised environment.
